Summary -Chapter 3 : Emerging Trends

  1. Artificial Intelligence (AI):

    • AI aims to simulate human-like intelligence in machines.
    • Subfields include machine learning and natural language processing (NLP).
    • Applications range from digital personal assistants to machine translation and immersive experiences.
  2. Big Data:

    • Big Data refers to vast, complex datasets that cannot be processed with traditional methods.
    • Characterized by volume, velocity, variety, veracity, and value.
    • Data analytics technologies are used to extract insights from Big Data for various purposes.
  3. Internet of Things (IoT):

    • IoT is a network of interconnected devices embedded with sensors and software.
    • Enables devices to communicate and interact with each other, facilitating automation and remote control.
    • Applications include smart homes, smart cities, and various industries.
  4. Cloud Computing:

    • Cloud computing delivers computing services over the Internet, providing on-demand access to resources.
    • Three service models: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS).
    • Offers scalability, cost-effectiveness, and accessibility from anywhere.
  5. Grid Computing:

    • Grid computing connects geographically dispersed and heterogeneous computational resources to solve large-scale tasks.
    • Distinct from cloud computing, as it focuses on specific applications and creates a virtual supercomputer.
    • Types include data grid and CPU grid, leveraging middleware like the Globus toolkit.
  6. Blockchains:

    • Blockchain technology enables decentralized and secure digital transactions through shared databases.
    • Consists of blocks of data linked together in a chain, ensuring transparency and integrity.
    • Applications span digital currency, business, governance, healthcare, and more.
