Golden Key Points

  1. Species:

    • Group of individual organisms with fundamental similarities.
    • Distinguished based on distinct morphological differences.
    • Examples: Mangifera indica, Solanum tuberosum, Panthera leo.
  2. Genus:

    • Group of related species with more common characteristics than species from other genera.
    • Examples: Solanum (potato and brinjal), Panthera (lion, leopard, tiger).
  3. Family:

    • Group of related genera with fewer similarities compared to within a genus or species.
    • Characterized based on vegetative and reproductive features.
    • Examples: Solanaceae (Solanum, Petunia, Datura), Felidae (Panthera, Felis).
  4. Order:

    • Assemblage of families exhibiting some similar characters.
    • Fewer shared characters compared to those used to distinguish between genera.
    • Examples: Polymoniales (Convolvulaceae, Solanaceae), Carnivora (Felidae, Canidae).
  5. Class:

    • Grouping of related orders with some degree of similarity.
    • Examples: Mammalia (Primata, Carnivora), incorporating a range of orders including Primata and Carnivora.
  6. Phylum:

    • Higher taxonomic category comprising classes with certain similarities.
    • Examples: Chordata (includes classes like fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals).
  7. Kingdom:

    • Highest taxonomic category encompassing broad groups of organisms.
    • Kingdom Animalia includes all animals from various phyla, while Kingdom Plantae includes all plants from various divisions.
